Person Auditorium. His presentation will focus on the topic "The Road to Freedom: From Alabama to Obama." A first-hand eyewitness to many watershed moments in the history of the Civil Rights Movement, Bond speaks on the centuries-long struggle of African-Americans for equality. From his student days to his current chairmanship of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Bond has been an active participant in the movements for civil rights and economic justice. As an activist who has faced jail for his convictions, a veteran of more than 20 years service in the Georgia General Assembly, a university professor and a writer, he has been on the cutting edge of social change since 1960. The event is part of the Andrea Neves/Barton Evans Social Justice Lecture Series in conjunction with the Center for Culture, Gender and Sexuality Heritage Lecture Series. There will also be an open forum for faculty, students and alumni to meet with Bond in the Schulz Information Center that afternoon. Harrop was interviewed by SBE Dean Bill Silver who inquired of her career, education, and adventures in the wine industry. Harrop spoke about her overseas study in Bordeaux and how that experience guided her future career back home in the US. She worked for French companies upon her return partly due to her in-depth knowledge of French language and culture. While trained in the production side, Harrop has primarily worked in sales and marketing within the wine industry. In 2006, she launched and founded Global Package, a wine packaging company, which continues to experience a growth in sales despite the poor economy. Harrop has plans to expand her company and announced an upcoming new job position to Wine Business Program students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. "Judy and I are confident that the Green Music Center will enhance the education experience for SSU students, and are glad to be part of the community of supporters helping SSU achieve this goal," says Les Vadasz. The donation is divided into $250,000 in underwriting for the GMC Student Practice Suite in the Music Education Hall. The suite encompasses seven student practice rooms in the Music Library in the Hall that provide vital space for student study, practice and instruction. Music students and faculty use these areas on a daily basis and the area supports close student and teacher interaction, learning and practice. The Vadasz Family Foundation also established a $250,000 Vadasz Family Endowment Fund to provide private lessons and practice scholarships for music students. Les Vadasz was a member of Intel Corporation's founding team in 1968. He led design teams that developed some of the semiconductor industry's most significant products. Civil Rights Leader Julian Bond Slated for
March 20 Appearance at SSU

alumni logoJulian Bond, a leader in the modern American civil rights movement, will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20 in the Evert B. Person Auditorium.  His presentation will focus on the topic "The Road to Freedom: From Alabama to Obama."
 
A first-hand eyewitness to many watershed moments in the history of the Civil Rights Movement, Bond speaks on the centuries-long struggle of African-Americans for equality.
 
From his student days to his current chairmanship of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Bond has been an active participant in the movements for civil rights and economic justice.
 
As an activist who has faced jail for his convictions, a veteran of more than 20 years service in the Georgia General Assembly, a university professor and a writer, he has been on the cutting edge of social change since 1960.

SBE Alumni Speaker Series Debuts

Vadasz Family Foundation Donates $500,000 for Music Education at Green Music Center
 
The Vadasz Family Foundation has generously underwritten music education at Sonoma State University's Green Music Center with $500,000 in donations.
