Vincent Cortese
President
Vincent majored in Communications and graduated from SSU in 2000. He was involved in many student activities including, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Student Alumni Ambassadors, the Order of Omega and served as editor-in-chief of the Sonoma State Star. While working towards his degree he worked as a student assistant in the Office of Campus Life, the Student Union and the University Affairs Office. After graduation he began his banking career with Wells Fargo Bank where he spent four years serving in various roles including Personal Banker, Mortgage Consultant and Branch Manager. In 2004 he joined the team at Bank of America as a Branch Manager in Santa Rosa, CA and also coordinated the bank’s efforts for the North Bay Heart Walk for the American Heart Association.
He recently accepted a position with Citibank, N.A. as Vice President and manages the Sonoma Branch, continuing to serve the financial needs of the surrounding community in both consumer and business banking. Vincent continues to give back to SSU. He has been a board member since March 2009 and also serves as an alumni advisor to the SSU chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Kelly Bass
Vice President
Kelly Bass graduated from SSU in 2003 with a major in art history and minored in arts management. She was involved in many student activities including; Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity, SAFE and the Order of Omega. While earning her degree, Kelly worked as a student assistant in the Student Union, and served as a Peer Mentor for Freshman Seminar. After graduation, she moved to Southern California and worked in commercial real estate before making a career change, and moving back to Northern California to work for Herff Jones yearbooks as a Sales Representative.
Currently, Kelly is the marketing and public relations manager for the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, overseeing marketing and branding strategies. She is also in charge of the chamber’s award-winning Summer Algebra Academy program that introduces pre-high school students to practical applications of algebra in high-tech, real world situations. Kelly also coordinates the Chamber’s successful Young Professionals Network and was named a Forty under 40 winner by the North Bay Business Journal in 2009. She resides in Petaluma, CA, with her boyfriend, Pat.
Kelly continues to give back to SSU. She has been a board member since March 2009 and also serves as the chapter advisor to the SSU chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta.
Molly Rattigan
Vice President
Molly Rattigan graduated from SSU in 2002 with a Bachelors degree in Political Science. She was involved in many student activities including, Alpha Gamma Delta, Order of Omega and Associated Students and worked as a student assistant in the Sonoma Student Union. Molly also holds a Masters’ in Public Policy and Administration from California State University-Sacramento. She has worked for the County of Napa since 2004 and is currently employed as a Director of Worforce Development. In this role Molly is responsible for facilitating the budgetary, organizational and policy functions of the Law and Justice and Public Safety agencies within the County of Napa.
Molly resides in Rohnert Park with her husband and fellow Sonoma State alumnus, Nate Campbell. She continues to give back to SSU and has been a board member since March 2009, as well as an alumni advisor to the SSU chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta.
David Felte
Treasurer
David resides in Rohnert Park where he has been living since 1997. David is a Financial Planner, Investment Adviser Representative with Eagle Strategies LLC. and Associate Editor of Financial News Digest, a nationally distributed publication for effective money management. David began his career in financial services after graduating from Sonoma State University with degrees in Accounting, Finance & Economics. He is a 7 year member of the Million Dollar Round Table and currently working on his Masters Degree in Financial Services at the American College in Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania. David is the Past President of Sonoma County Big Brothers & Big Sisters and a current board member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the North Bay. He enjoys exploring the North Bay, playing tennis and softball, beer making, mountain biking, cabinet making and is an avid wine lover.
Sarah Scudder
Secretary
Sarah Scudder graduated from SSU in 2005 with a double major in Business and Economics and minor in American Multi-Cultural Studies. She was involved in many student activities including Alpha Gamma Delta, Order of Omega, Student Ambassadors and B.E.S.T. While earning her degree, Sarah served as a Summer Orientation Leader and Peer Mentor for Freshman Seminar. Upon graduation Sarah began working on the business development team at Golden Pacific Systems, Inc. located in Rohnert Park. She instantly became involved in her community serving as a board member for Rebuilding Together Petaluma, a committee member for the Sonoma Federal Credit Union and Vice President of Rivertown Business Builders Business Networking International (BNI) group.
Currently, Sarah serves as Internal Online Order Solutions Director for Golden Pacific Systems. She assisted in the development, branding and execution of GPnet – an internal online ordering, communication and document management system for multi-unit companies. She is responsible for obtaining and managing national and international accounts. She implements turn-around marketing strategies, brand development, strategic planning, evaluation and development of marketing collateral to ensure 98% branding consistency for all clients. She sources, manages and maintains relationships with over 150 vendors worldwide. She oversees new product and programming innovation that has resulted in the development of a state-of-the-art direct mail program, ROI calculators, surveys and data collection that save companies $100,000 per year
Sarah resides in Petaluma. She continues to give back to SSU and has been a board member since September 2009, as well as the President of the North Bay Alum chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta.
Cynthia H. Stringer
Immediate Past President
Cynthia attended SSU after transferring from UCSB. While at SSU she participated in the Learning Community an experiential self-generated learning community housed in the Psychology Department. She was one of the founding members of the on-campus organization Outdoor Pursuits and graduated in 1994. Since then she has lived and traveled extensively in the United States and abroad and has been a pioneer in her chosen fields using her degree by leveraging her creativity and resourcefulness by generating new business industries such as business and life coaching, on-line learning and spirit in business. Cynthia has been a successful business owner as a professional speaker, coach and special event coordinator. In addition to her contribution to SSU she is active with American Red Cross as Chairperson & Disaster Action Team member, serves as a Hospital Chaplain, and is active with Conscious Media initiatives. She has been on the SSU Board of Directors for 5 years and is currently Board President & Event Chairperson.
Eric Carlson
Director
Eric Carlson received a Bachelors of Arts with honors in 2001 from the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies. As a student, he served as Student Body President, Student Body Vice President, an Ex-Officio member of the Rohnert Park City Council, and as a Board of Director of the Student Government, California State Student Association, and Sonoma State Enterprises. He also volunteered with many campus organizations, served on committees for both Sonoma State and the Chancellors Office, and worked as a student assistant for the Information Technology Department.
After graduation, Mr. Carlson attended Southwestern School of Law. During his tenure, he was a founding member and co-president of the Southwestern Democrats Club. He also completed an Externship with the Los Angeles Superior Courts Complex Civil Division and worked as a research assistant for Professor Robert Lind. Mr. Carlson graduated from Southwestern School of Law in May 2005. He was admitted to the California State Bar and Federal Bar in December 2005.
Mr. Carlson currently practices law in the North Bay Area. He represents clients in the civil litigation process and in administrative proceedings from pre-litigation activities through the posttrial appeal processes. He also volunteers for Legal Aid of Sonoma County, the Sonoma County Bar Association, and serves as a Board of Director for Hillel of Sonoma County. Together with his wife, he cofounded, the Group at the Jewish Community Center, a group for Jewish people in their twenties and thirties in Sonoma County.
Marlina Boucher Harrison
Director
Marlina Boucher Harrison graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English in 1979. While a student at SSU, she served as editor of the Stony Point Gazette, then the SSU newspaper, and was awarded a MECCA fellowship at University of Denver School of Business during her senior year. She also pursued studies in Spanish and marketing management and continues to take courses through SSU’s extension program.
After graduation she was hired as director of marketing and public relations for the SSU School of Extended Education. She went on to become advertising director for the McPhails retail chain and later senior account executive at Campbell & Associates before launching her own advertising, marketing and public relations agency, with accounts ranging from retail to special events, from finance to education. Currently Harrison is PR and marketing director for the Sonoma County Fair and a part-time Spanish instructor for the Rincon Valley Union School District. She continues to write articles on local issues and manages public relations and marketing campaigns for a variety of local organizations.
Harrison’s volunteer service has included years of service with both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, working as a volunteer Spanish instructor, and as a volunteer English instructor. She has served on the board of Children & Family Circle and on numerous local campaigns. She first served on the alumni board in the early 80s and rejoined in 2009.
Mark A . Heller
Director
Mark Heller graduated from SSU in 1981 with two majors, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and in Spanish. During his school years, Mark worked for the Dean of students and was the Student council representative for the Foreign Language Department. He is affiliated with Hurd Real Estate and a residential Real Estate Broker since 1989.
Mark has lived and worked in Santa Rosa since that time and is currently raising two active and athletic children, Max and Heidi. He volunteers with organized youth sports and as a coaching assistant for the Montgomery High School boy’s tennis team.
In 2001 Mark joined the SSU Alumni Board of Directors.
Elaina Hunt
Director
Elaina Hunt graduated from SSU in 2005 with a degree in Business Marketing. During her time at SSU, her main focus was excelling in academics and gaining work experience. What started as an unpaid internship at a local public relations firm quickly became the beginning of a career in marketing and public relations. Elaina is currently Acting Director of Marketing for Summit State Bank, a top rated Sonoma County-based community bank. She enjoys singing and has participated in SSU’s Bach and Chamber choirs and Holiday Singers group. She volunteers with Circle of Sisters, a mentorship program for young girls, Canine Companions, and Legal Aid.
A long-time Sonoma County resident, Hunt lives in her Santa Rosa home, and has been a SSU Alumni Board Member since March 2009.
Ralph Jaeck
Director
Ralph graduated from SSU in 1967 with a BA in Economics, and was one of the members of the first class to graduate from the new campus. While at SSU, he served as Student Body President from 1966 to1967. After graduation, Ralph was awarded a one-year fellowship in Sacramento with the County Supervisors Association and upon completion, he accepted a position with the County of Santa Clara and that initiated a 40+ year career in local government and served on a number boards in the communities he served. In 1974, He received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from San Jose State and 1975 a certificate in Municipal Management from the University of Santa Clara.
Ralph has kept up an active teaching career serving on the faculties of Golden Gate University, Foothill College, Mission College, and Truckee Meadows Community College. He currently is on the faculty of University of Phoenix (Reno).
He has been recognized by the Nevada AFL as the outstanding employer in the State of Nevada (2004), by the International City Mangers Association with its Excellence Award (2007) and by the California State Assembly for Sustainability Programming in 2008. Ralph retired from city management in January of 2009 and lives in Reno with his wife Barbara, whom he met at SSU.
Mike Kiraly
Director
Mike has worked on campus for over twenty years, and received both his BA in History in 1992 and MPA in 1995 from Sonoma State. A member of the VFW and a Navy Vet, Mike holds commendations for his role in the 1979 Iranian Hostage Rescue Attempt. At SSU, Mike has been Academic Coordinator for History and Political Science Departments, and since the late 1990s, Director of Library Operations. A firm believer in life-long learning and the value of intellectual engagement, Mike has presented several papers at national conferences, and has won scholarships from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Mike is fiercely proud of his alma mater, having watched Sonoma State grow over these past many years. He's thrilled to have even this small opportunity to give back to the University which has given him, and the region, so much.
Jim Manly
Director
Jim Manly graduated from SSU in 1999 with an MBA with an emphasis in finance and marketing. Manly was working in retail management during this time and was a store director in Novato, Santa Rosa and Napa. After seventeen years with several subsidiaries of the Ralphs Grocery Company, he changed careers in 2006.
Manly has been a financial advisor with VALIC since 2006. He holds a series 7, 63 and 65. He currently serves as an Investment Advisor Representative working with individuals and groups in Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties. His primary client groups are K-12, Higher Education, County and City governments and local Non-Profits. He has volunteered his time for several fund raising efforts for local non-profits and local schools, serving as a board member of Schools Plus in 2007. He has lived in Sonoma County since 1992. Currently he lives in Santa Rosa with his fiancée, Lynn.
Manly continues to give back to SSU. He has been a board member since 2000 and is the Immediate Past President. During his term, he expanded board communication with and support for the individual schools of SSU. He also served as the SSU alumni board representative to the CSU Alumni Council and attended CSU Advocacy to the Legislature in 2006.
He received his BA from UC Davis, where he was a double major in International Relations and Political Science. He is a Life Member of both the SSU and Cal Aggie Alumni Associations.
Spike O'Keeffe
Director
Mike “Spike” O’Keeffe graduated from SSU in 1975 with a major Political Science with a minor in Management. While at SSU he was involved in golf and Basketball and was captain of the golf team in ’72 and MVP in ’73. He played basketball with friends Steve Tiedeman and Tom Fitchie who are both in the SSU Hall of Fame. Spike started in the wholesale grocery industry in 1979 working for Granny Goose Foods and in 1997 he started O’Keeffe Distributing Inc. based in Santa Rosa which distributed assorted snack foods to the Grocery industry. He sold the business in 2000 to Snyders of Hanover and continues to work with Snyders as a District Sales Manager covering Northern California to Southern Oregon. After graduation he was a volunteer for the Sonoma Cheese Factory Golf Tournament which was the main resource of outside contributions for the SSU Athletic Department for many years.
Spike has been active in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Rohnert Park elected to the Parish Council in 1993 and again in 2002 serving as Parish Council President in 1994. He volunteered 5 years with the Clo Bowl Football game, an annual event sponsored by Clover Stornetta, at the Santa Rosa Jr. College. O’Keeffe is married to wife Joan for 30 years living in Rohnert Park and has two daughters Kelly and Megan.
